Pop into Kirkdale Bookshop's gallery and feast your eyes on a truly outstanding photographic exhibition.
Keeping Shop: Portrait of a High Street is on display until 30 August and features work by local photographer Ann Pownall who over the past few months has been taking pictures of our local traders inside and outside their shops. More than 60 images are on display.
Congratulations to Ann on a wonderful pictorial record and also to Geraldine Cox, owner of Kirkdale Bookshop and Chair of Sydenham Traders, who had the original idea.
As part of the exhibition there is also an opportunity for long standing local residents to write down memories of the area's shops in times gone by on cards which are provided.
Wonderful photographic exhibition
Thanks Pat,

It can't really do justice to the real photographs. Get down to the Kirkdale Bookshop. Sydenham Road will never look the same again!

My husband, my 2 1/2 year old son and I really enjoyed this exhibition! Wonderful work; I loved the depth of colour in the portraits, their immediacy, and the bringing together of a community like this.
My son Freddie was thrilled to see all the faces he knows especially the people at the pet shop!
There is a real sense of local pride about the exhibition and it's great to see so many faces we know in context; a public photo album for us all to enjoy. Many thanks & all good wishes,
