rubbish disposal
Hi,
Does anyone know where the nearest tip is? I have an old burst radiator, broken microwave, garden waste and worn timber that I need to dispose of.
Any pointers would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi there,
As long as you're a resident of the Borough of Lewisham, you can use the Recycling depot at Landmann Way, Deptford. They're really helpful and worth a trip to the North of the borough, as long as you don't turn up in a van, that is!
See the website: http://www.lewisham.gov.uk/ContactUs/Co ... annWay.htm
Good luck!

Jeepers!! Greener than i thought round here. A friend also mentioned today that he saw a sign saying recycling near Lower sydenham station, near a skip hire company. He's not used it, but does anyone else know of that? In the meantime I'll take a trip to one of the locations listed. Thanks for the help.

There is an issue which I really would wish our councillors would sort. Telling us to take our stuff to darkest Deptford when we are surrounded by perfectly good dumps that just happen to be out of borough is so stupid.
Telling us to recycle stuff and then insist we consume several times the amount of fuel, time and congestion is real not-joined up thinking. Joined-up thinking was what the party of our particular councillor's put as one of their core values. Let's see some!
Of course expecting Lambeth, Southwark or Bromley ratepayers to finance my landfill is silly too. But then I guess the residents of Greenwich aren't supposed to go to nearby Deptford and have to trek even further afield.
Can we not get dumps sorted so that everyone has full and proper access to their nearest? If this means giving them to Uncle Ken - what's the problem?

Is there a need to sort the dumps out? So long as it is domestic waste (i.e you are in a car and not a van) then you can use the closest dump to you. Each council will win some/lose some with people using out of borough dumps, but I’m sure this will more or less even itself out. Surely the last thing we want to do is to spend money on a reorganisation or a bureaucratic system to cross charge councils for out of borough residents using the “wrong” facility.

No problem if you can guarantee the current local situation will hold and Lewisham stops spending our money to tell us to take it to the other end of the borough.kster wrote:Is there a need to sort the dumps out? However, the Lambeth dump has recently put up notices saying "LAMBETH RESIDENTS ONLY". One Sunday I expect them to use the over-zealous enforcement people (who occasionally disrupt proceedings there) to enforce that too. That's why I have a ready made fake-id if they try.
Do we really need to criminalise ourselves to stay green? Will everyone then go to Deptford? Or find an easier way and even more local place to dump it?
It is a subject that annoys me greatly!
When living in Southwark (very close to Deptford) I was stopped using the Landmann Way recycling depot and encouraged use a local Greenwich "throw onto the pile" tip.
A few years ago Lewisham issued us with ID cards to show at the depot, although nobody has asked me to show one for a while. Around the same time, I was asked to complete a verbal questionnaire at the site, regarding where I lived and how far I had travelled, etc. I was asked if I'd prefer to use a recycling depot in the South of the Borough, which I of course said "YES!". When I enquired where it would be - they said it could be in Lower Sydenham in a disused gas works near the Savacentre!
Now don't let me get started.......! Were the results of this survey ever published?

I thought if you used the Churchfields Depot (London Borough of Bromley) you also had to be a resident of L B Bromley and show your permit?mummycat wrote: A few years ago Lewisham issued us with ID cards to show at the depot, although nobody has asked me to show one for a while. Last time I was there (Churchfields) I just had to pay 3 quid as a non-resident of Bromley. Bargain. Mind you, they don't like it if you look like a builder / your rubbish looks like you might be a builder, they get a bit suspicious. And if you go in a van, you will prob have to weigh and pay.
Much handier than trekking to New Cross.
