AS I WALKED OUT ONE SUMMERS EVE
AS I WALKED OUT ONE SUMMERS EVE
UP HIGH ON SYDENHAM HILL,
I DREAMT I SAW A MARBLED PROMENADE
GLISTEN BEFORE ME LIKE A MILKY WAY
FROM ABOVE,
A SKY GURGLING WITH BIRD SONG
FROM BELOW,
A STREAM OF SHOPPERS THRONG
WATCHFUL BENEATH BALCONIES OF JASMINE
AND BUTTERFLIES
FOUNTAINS RISE IN PISSARO SHADES
WHILST FISH BASK COOL UNDER COLONNADES
AWNINGS FLAP UPON A SPICE BREEZE,
WHILST FEELINGS SHELTER AT THEIR EASE
LAUGHTER BLOSSOMS IN ROSY HUES
AND DRY TEARS BLOW SILVER AND BLUE
EXPERIENCE HANGS AS GOLDEN PEARS
FROM ITS THOUGHTFUL BOUGHS
ALL WORRIES FALL AWAY AS BARK,
ALONG AVENUES OF PLANE TREES AT MAYOW PARK
NO CHINKING TILL, NO UNWANTED BILL
NO SALES PITCH HYPERBOLE
JUST A BELIEF TO BE IN HARMONY
WITH NATURE, BIRD AND BEAST
MY REVERIE NOW A SETTING SUN
A HEART A GLOW, A PEACE IS WON
AS I WALKED OUT ONE SUMMER EVE.
