Bikehangars in Sydenham

Post by biscuitman1978 »

Lewisham Council is placing a number of Bikehangars throughout the borough and is calling all residents to help identify where they are most needed.

Bikehangars provide secure overnight parking for cycles. The small units work like a garage, take six bikes and are installed on the roadside. Users have access to keys and share the hangar with five neighbours. More info at http://www.sydenhamsociety.com/2013/09/ ... -lewisham/.

It would be great to get some in Sydenham, so please do nominate possible locations at http://e-activist.com/ea-action/action? ... arded=true.

Slightly off topic, but I noticed today that a bike stand (pedal cycle parking place) adjacent to Venner Road pocket square had a bike latched to it which was seemingly there only for the purposes of advertising (buying scrap vehicles etc). It doesn't seem fair that roadside cycle stands can be commandeered in this way. Is it naive to think it was temporarily there only for today?

On topic, there is a notice up and already marks on the road to identify two(?) new car parking spaces near the station alleyway on Silverdale. Maybe one of those might be a suitable place? (Would have to propose conversion of either of those spaces in double quick time though methinks.)

Sadly, it was there last week too.

I would have thought that in the grounds of blocks of flats would be suitable places.

In an attempt to square the circle on this, can I point out that Lewisham Cyclists - which is a branch of the London Cycling Campaign - are coordinating borough responses. They would also welcome your suggestions:
