Where are these houses, are they still there??

No, sadly they have all gone. They were in Longton Grove, the top part, between Westwood Hill and Longton Avenue. The long building that features in most of the pictures was Sydenham High School until they moved across the road in 1934. The building in the last picture was on the corner of Longton Avenue. The whole site now has flats on it.

My family moved from Sussex to the house with the big white gate in about 1963/4. My bedroom was the one at the top. It was already divided into flats and there were garages at the back.

We later moved to 70 Longton Grove (still standing). I sat on the steps here watching another enormous house next door (Markwell Close is now on this site) being slowly demolished.
