Cat knocked down: Newlands park

Post by stone-penge »

Unfortunately a dusky/ ginger/ sandy coloured large cat (probably male) was knocked down and killed today near the newsagents in Newlands Park by a car that didn't stop, thankfully it died instantly. The council are coming tomorrow to pick it up. They will check to see if it has been micro-chipped but if not they will hold it for a week before disposing of it.

Oh dear - that's very sad - hopefully the cat will have been microchipped and the owner(s) notified.

Good idea to post this on the forum - to get maximum coverage for this info. You never know - word of mouth and all that....

Sadly, and speaking as the owner of 3 cats myself, the driver of a car is under no legal obligation to stop or report, or do anything whatsoever about, knocking down a cat.

Dogs on the other hand is a different matter...
