New Borough Commander

Chief Superintendent Russell Nyman has been appointed as the new Borough
Commander for Lewisham borough. He transfers to Lewisham having joined the
MPS from Kent Police.
Russell Nyman joined Kent Police in 1986 and spent several years as a uniformed
patrol officer at Tunbridge Wells.
Whilst there he transferred to the CID as a Detective Constable and in 1993 was
promoted to a Sergeant.
In 2000 he was promoted to Inspector and took responsibility for the management of
West Kent’s Intelligence Department, a post he held for five years before taking up
the role of a Staff Officer to the Assistant Chief Constable for Area Policing.
In 2006 he was promoted to Chief Inspector and took up the role of Borough
Commander at Tunbridge Wells, a post he held for three years, during which time
Tunbridge Wells became the best performing Borough in terms of crime reduction
and detection in Kent.
In 2009 Russell was promoted to Superintendent and appointed as the Head of
Partnerships and Crime Reduction for Kent working at Maidstone Headquarters,
where he led the force response for Her Majesty of Inspectorate of Constabulary
(HMIC) inspections on anti social behaviour.
The following year he was appointed the Deputy Area Commander for Medway,
identified as one of the most challenging policing areas in Kent.
2012 has seen Russell promoted to Chief Superintendent, transferring to the MPS in
July and appointed as Borough Commander for Lewisham.
Chief Superintendent Russell Nyman said: “To be appointed as Borough
Commander for Lewisham is the pinnacle of my policing career to date, and I am
looking forward to working with partners in all sectors, and the wider community to
make Lewisham a safer place to live, work and visit.”
