Hullo everyone,
Would you like a free guided walk on the Green Chain Walk's new extension through Sydenham?
The Green Chain finally ventured Northwards out of Crystal Palace Park last September and a good 200 people took part in the opening walk from Nunhead to Dulwich Picture Gallery. Alas, the weather was rotten and far fewer ventured over the rest of the course to Crystal Palace.
Now we're all acclimatised to rotten weather here's a chance to get the whole, rather glorious, route under your belt. 'Walk London', the body that Transport for London funds to keep the Capital's long distance footpath network nicely walkable, is offering a pleasant stroll from Dulwich Picture Gallery to Crystal Palace on Saturday 29th January. We'll be starting at 1.30pm at the Old College Gates to Dulwich Park in College Road and the five and a half miles won't take more than three and a half hours. Basic details are here...

I'll be conducting the walk with assistance from Walk London's Allen Conley. I'm going to bring along some old photos to enliven things and will give some historical narrative. I'm not expecting 200 (!) people this time so this should be a more friendly event. No hurry or worry, just a very pleasant stroll through some of South London's best 'countryside'. If you haven't ventured out onto the Green Chain yet, you won't be disappointed!
I do hope to see many of you. It was such a pleasure to have so much good company in September. Do feel free to contact me for any more information you may require.
All the best

Free, guided walk on Sydenham's Green Chain
Re: Free, guided walk on Sydenham's Green Chain
Hullo everyone,
This walk is tomorrow at 1.30pm so apologies for the late information that it's not really suitable for Prams or Buggies thanks to the kissing gates in Sydenham Hill Woods Nature Reserve.
We start at the College Road gates to Dulwich Park outside the Picture Gallery, I hope to see you there!

How did this go? Any photos?
Re: Free, guided walk on Sydenham's Green Chain
Hullo Mummycat and all who took part,
At 38 the attendance was just right. I was left with a strong impression that all who participated thoroughly enjoyed it! Once the figure goes over 50 it's difficult to give full value. Despite my droning on with historical details we arrived at CP Park at only 3.30 so there was time for a little exploration of the replica structural components, the subway under CP Parade and, the sole surviving cast iron support outside the museum.
There aren't very many organised walks on the Green Chain these days but 'Walk London' will be offering two more over the last weekend in May. There will also be an opportunity to walk all the way to the Eastern extremity of the Green Chain in mid June and further walks in late September. I will post details on ED.
