Profile on Jens Winton - UKIP candidate for Lewisham West

Post by Lewkip »

Making British political history as the first serving Metropolitan Police Service employee to run for MP in an election, Jens Winton is the UKIP candidate for Lewisham West in 2005. Residing in Lewisham since 2000, Jens previously lived in Jamaica for 15 years where he was active in media and technology.

He is married to Natilie and has two children.

Jens is representing the interests of the six wards of Lewisham West: Bellingham, Catford South, Forest Hill, Perry Vale, Rushey Green and Sydenham.

Jens has four main constituency goals:

1. Boosting financial awareness and generating effective dispute resolution in Lewisham West through a million pound counselling project in money management and mediation!

2. Help 6,000+ Lewisham council property leaseholders save nearly £200! UKIP demands that Lewisham Council accept Freeview digital television as another way of dealing with the planned analogue switch-off!

3. Pinpointing streets in need of safer crossing facilities using Lovelewisham.org technology already in existence!

4. Help stop the EU from forcing 77 former European colonies into unfair trading agreements between very unequal partners!

Jens is also addressing other key local issues such as the funding problems of the elderly charity, Age Concern Lewisham, by asking for greater transparency in how Lewisham Council’s Community Sector Unit commissions aid for such organisations. He also seeks a solution to the planned closure of the Ladywell Leisure Centre swimming pool by insisting that Lewisham Council delays the pool’s demise until either a revamped Forest Hills or Deptford pool is available.

As one of nearly 500 UKIP candidates standing for election in 2005, Jens also seeks Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union. UKIP would stop the paying of £30m a day into the EU and immediately increase state pensions by £25 per week. Freedom from Brussels would reverse the situation where 70% of British laws are made by the EU and return full control to Westminster over issues such as immigration.
