Locally, significant focus has been placed upon air quality and monitoring around Haseltine School. Parents, guardians and carers have expressed their significant concerns and worries on several media streams.
In far reaching reports published in the last few days, outcomes from the Mayor of London's Environment Team show that concerns have a much wider impact than might have been anticipated.
Not a single one of Lewisham’s 98 schools has met the interim WHO guidelines for air pollution.
A report published by the mayor of London’s environment team on February 17 shows pollution levels surrounding each of the borough’s schools exceed the 10µg/m3 for PM2.5 guideline.
The borough’s two listed nurseries, Chelwood nursery school and Clyde nursery school, also fell short of WHO’s guidelines.
A concentration of 11 or more PM was recorded at 22 schools.
It's not good, is it? I'd be even more concerned if I was younger with school age children. But this is a problem for us all that affects us all - not just children. Unfortunately it's not in any one individual's power to solve - though individuals can change behaviours and set examples. They can also lobby our leaders - whether they be local or national.
