We do have the hospice. That might give us a larger number of very vulnerable and frail people.

St Christopher's might have an impact
Re: Sydenham has highest Covid deaths in Lewisham!
St Christopher’s Hospice comes under Bromley borough so wouldn’t be used in Lewisham’s stats despite it still being SE26.

Wow so again I wonder why this area has the highest death rate in Lewisham?

Re: Sydenham has highest Covid deaths in Lewisham!
I would put some money on it being related to the number of care homes in the area.

Yes, that's puzzling about Sydenham ward. Perhaps it is mainly down to care homes and the hospice. Lewisham Central, which contains Lewisham Hospital, has 13 deaths, six lower than Sydenham. I would have expected this to be have the highest number of deaths in the borough. Guys and St Thomas', for example, recorded 103 deaths from the first week in March to the first week in April.
However, the person who posted these figures didn't say which period of time these stats covered. From what official sources say, hospitals deaths have been decreasing for some days now.

El Cid, these deaths cover 1 March-17 April.
Robin, I can only find 2 care homes in the Sydenham ward - are there more?

Re: Sydenham has highest Covid deaths in Lewisham!
I haven't really researched this, but I believe that the large Castlebar home on Sydenham Hill is in Sydenham ward, that there is another home by Cobb's Corner and yet another towards the bottom end of Sydenham Road, just past Kwikfit on the left as you go down the hill. On the other hand I can't immediately think of any care homes in Forest Hill ward.
Re: Sydenham has highest Covid deaths in Lewisham!
I don't think the care home at Cobbs corner has been a care home for some years. It's now split into 3 places, probably some form of assisted living accommodation, rather than an actual care home. The one in Lower Sydenham is Peartree. There is also Barchester on Westwood Hill.
Re: Sydenham has highest Covid deaths in Lewisham!
I may be wrong but it is my understanding that this statistic goes on postcode of deceased not where they died. I would have thought it doesn't measure the number of people that died in Lewisham Hospital - it would measure from the postcode of the deceased surely? I would have thought that more than 13 people have died in Lewisham hospital of Covid 19.
Not wishing this post to appear insensitive, I would add that every single death from this terrible disease is a tragedy, no matter how the figure is arrived at.
