Broken pinter/copier - can you help?

Post by Jane73 »

My hp psc 2179 all-in-one printer, scanner & copier has just broken. The bit which whizzes along when photocopying has jammed & there's a rather suspicious looking belt that's detached itself.

Anyone know where I could get it repaired?

:(

Have you looked here:- http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/prod ... g=en&cc=uk

If you can't fix it and it is out of warranty, it 'might' be a good idea to purchase another or similar printer. Just one tip..................... before you buy any printer check how much the cost of replacement cartridges are.
Dell used to more or less give their printers away, but a replacement cartridge can cost a fortune.

Hi. If it's a typical problem with that printer, you might find others on Internet forums who've experienced similar and might know if it's fixable by oneself, i.e. can tell you which bits to unscrew and hook back on, unless the belt itself has broken (snapped). Google the model + belt (or carriage or carrier) and see what pops up.

"All in one's" aren't usually worth paying money to repair IMO, since a newer version could probs be bought for the same amount. Comet sell their in-store goods at internet prices (assuming in stock and you collect), though they don't price them that way in-store LOL.

thanks Eagle & mosy - the belt does indeed look snapped so it looks like a shiny new one may be on the cards, although I will check out webforums first....

thank you both for your helpful advice!

If you do buy a shiny new one, have a look to see what's around as some now have quite good photo options also. As said re costing cartridges, there are sites which sell "proper" ones cheaper than others; also peeps have different views about how long (how many prints) they last for.

Good luck either way :)
