jazz at the golden lion

Post by parklife »

on Tuesday 4th December at 8pm there is free jazz at The Golden lion.

The event is called "Rutland Reunion" in reference to the jazz pub which sadly closed down about a year ago.

As I understand it, the evening is a one off, but if enough people support it perhaps it may become a regular event?

I for one would love to be able to listen to jazz in a traditional pub in my own high street

Hi Pondlife.
Ive seen a few posters dotted around regarding this Jazz night.
I do believe its modern Jazz rather than Trad am I right? If so, you can count me in. Wow, Sydenhams coming up in the world. I have been to the Golden Lion a few times since moving from North Snodland and have always found it very friendly.

I have lived in Syd for 7 years and never been in the Golden Lion. I cannot believe they are going to play live jazz (my passion) and I can't make it.

Gutted from Sydenham :(

Me too. I've been here for 10 years and somehow never made it to the golden lion. I've been to the 2 halves in it's various guises, the dolphin before and after the change, the railway, man of kent, prince albert and the greyhound more times than I can count, but for some reason have never been in the golden lion.
I'll look to sort this out at the weekend!

Sydenham is actually quite a musical place - not enough is made of that I don't think (live music etc). Is it just me who's noticed lots of instrument shaped cases of all shapes and sizes being carried by people off the trains? Unless they're part of a 'Thorpes-based' mafia-gangster underworld that I didn't know about. Bad gag. Ignore it.

The Jazz thing sounds a great idea. I'll be there. If it's a success it might spark something off.

:D
I used to go to The Rutland pub for the Jaz, had a great time!
also used to go to the Greyhound and listen to the Jazz in the back room it was so close to home i loved it, not sure why it all ended? i know the old man who ran the Rutland died, but what happened to the Jazz in the Greyhound ?
I realise it's a bit late for the poor old Greyhound but it would be lovely if Jazz was to come back to Sydenham.

Then again how about someone starting up a Harvester with Jazz section at the Greyhound? :D

jazz in Sydenham

Post by cinders »

Have only been in the Golden Lion twice and it seemed friendly with a small local set. Lovely big traditional pub which could do so well with a bit of a Jazz night boost to its reputation. I will certainly be there

well I'm not sure what is going on here ! went to the Lion on Friday night and it was absolutely packed. I can only presume it's got a bit of attention due to the mention of a Jazz night. I will definitely be there as I remember how good the Jazz was in the Rutland. Got a feeling it might be hard to get seat in the Lion on Tuesday! maybe the most under-estimated pub in SE26..... till now

Oh dear - I used to do some Waitressing at the Rutland (many years ago) and could never understand it's obsession with Jazz music... I mean a bit of everything I would've understood, but no it was only ever Jazz, used to drive me crazy and send me home with a headache!!

Anyone know what's happening to the old Rutland building??
