So much for brownfield sites

The distress being expressed here about the loss of the old Dylon Building

Re: RIP DYLON FACTORY
That'll be a substantial area of Lower Sydenham visually blighted forever
and Re: Footzies
No sense of place, rather safe, boring

reminds me of the similar angst of the Greenwich Society at the prospect of putting more houses on brownfield sites.

Whose heritage, whose future?

Good illustrations of why the "brownfield first" principle has not been that helpful in aleviating the current housing crisis

Revised NPPF document includes brownfield test

Timothy

I appreciate we need houses but why could not the very inspiring factory building be converted into housing units.

What about all the lost jobs that the factory provided. Where locally are people going to get skilled employment.

Nothing wrong with building new homes as long as local schools, transport, roads, hospitals, doctors etc are upgraded to provide for them, as as long as the architecture is of good quality that gives a sense of place or is better than what was there before.

This doesn't form what I can see. It wipes away any context or history, pays no homage or respect to anything etc etc etc.

It doesn't have to be this way. Coin street, the Oxo Tower etc are great examples of how it should be.

Yes

What about the Iconic Hoover Building on A 40 , that has housed Tesco for 20 odd years.

Lee and Eagle I agree - lots of people like the idea of living in a converted school - post office - police station - factories are especially desirable to the creative types .
I think if u can save a bit of history whilst alleviating the " crisis " then why not .
You have to take people with you and not just submit to lazy design and greedy developers looks for the most boxes per £ spent .
A very good evening
