Just after seven o'clock this morning I was in Baxter Fields and was approached by a bloke from Lewisham Council asking about rough sleepers in the park. I mentioned the chap who lived for some days in a tent down by the school fence - apparently he has now been rehoused by Croydon. I mentioned another man who on one or two occasions my dog has sniffed out sleeping in the shrubbery at the top of the park, but said that I hadn't come across him recently.
When we first become aware of these guys, we decided not to report them in case they got harassed by the authorities. It is encouraging to find out that Lewisham seem to be taking a more sympathetic and positive approach than we feared.
