Funeral arrangements for Alan Pegg - former cllr

The funeral for former Councillor Alan Pegg will take place on Friday 22nd August at 1.15p.m. at Eltham Crematorium. His family have requested no flowers but donations to the Friends of University Hospital, Lewisham.

Alan served many years as a local Councillor and for all that time representing Sydenham East ward. He lived in Sydenham and was 81 when he passed away in Lewisham Hospital on Monday 28th July.

Alan was first elected when Lewisham and Deptford Boroughs merged in 1964/5. He lost his seat at the1968 election but was re-elected in1971 and remained a Councillor at every subsequent election until he stood down in May 2002. He served on numerous Committees during his Council service and was Chair of the Planning Committee for some time.

I was elected to represent Sydenham East in 1986 and as you might expect found Alan to be a fountain of local knowledge and well respected as a community representative. His top tip to me was always carry a small notebook for write down issues people raise. It is unusual to find continuity of service to the local community for over 30 years and I am pleased to have worked with Alan.

I would just like to thank those Lewisham Councillors, the Mayor of Lewisham, former Lewisham Councillors and everyone else who attended my father's funeral last Friday. Thank you everyone who also emailed me with their tributes and memories of Alan when he served as a Councillor at Lewisham Council.
