It has been a long while since I made it to a game, but my Wednesdays are now free, so I wouldn't mind being a late entry for tonight's match if you end up moving to the 7-a-side pitch.

If you're sticking with the 5's pitch for tonight, I can wait 'til next week.

OK - do you want a lift BM? I seem to remember dropping you off at Sydenham station some months ago after a game.

Good game tonight. Please post your availability for Wed 9 June by Monday lunchtime. If we get ten or eleven by then I'll book the five-a-side pitch; twelve or more I'll go for the seven-a-side pitch (if it's available).

New players always welcome. I'm in.

I'm in. Any chance of going back to an 8pm kick off (if there's enough support) ?

I'm not sure, even if we have enough numbers, that the 7pitch will be available until 8.30; if at all. Quite happy to play on the 5pitch if we're less than 12 but last night was a joke...

My take is thusly:

Lem does a great job but we're the punters...we dictate what he books... NOT the other way around as per last night.

IF we are above 12 (committed) players by Monday AM then - Lem - we book the 7s. BENEATH that we book the 5s and be done with it. And if you duck out then F* you, you pay. So to speak. Don't come back if you've not turned up and not let someone know why...

A workable alternative is that if we've the numbers for a 7pitch by Fri PM (NEW DEADLINE?) we book...not sure what will change in the interim.

Just my ever unwelcome thoughts in the meantime.

Yes, but you only get to dictate it once. I'm not willing to spend all my time on the phone to Goals changing pitches.

Yes. That's exactly what I said I would do (see eight posts above).

I'll stick with 8:30pm for the next match, but I urge everyone to let Donny (who is taking over as manager very soon) know whether they prefer 8pm or 8:30pm in future.

Perhaps I'm not being clear...no surprise there:

My thought process is that we're edging on enough interest AND bods for a regular 7s game.

Basically if we have enough regulars declaring their hands by Friday PM (mostly 12-14 should be easy) then we book the bigger pitch?

Saves the attendees/the organisers/GOALS the headache of our prevarication*?

*Though perhaps that's too strong a word?

To be honest we often have only 8 or 9 players by close of play on Friday. I then chase people by email or text over the weekend and they post their availability on Saturday, Sunday or Monday morning.

So, I will be sticking with the Monday lunchtime deadline system; Donny will decide if he wants to change it!

To be fair, I stood by you last night as you plaintively asked that blonde if we could upgrade from pitch 6 to pitch 4...

Much too late. So no great 'phone bashing on your part. In your defence though, IF people get their shit in order early enough it negates the begging?

To be fair Lem it was clear early on that the consensus was to play on the 7...you shouldn't have been dealing at the death for it?

So, cause and effect...

I am more than happy to book the pitch online, which I did. I took the unilateral decision to book the five-a-side pitch because we only had twelve confirmed. After I had done so it became clear that people would prefer to play on the seven-a-side pitch. Of course, I could have phoned Goals and tried to change it, but I have better things to do with my time than 'phone bash' Goals, as you put it.

Arranging the game takes time - as I explained above, it's not just a quick online booking. I find myself chasing people to post their availability, washing the bibs, collecting the money... I'm not willing to spend any more time on arranging a one hour kickabout.

But I think we are agreed that if people actually posted by the Monday deadline (or whatever deadline is set) that would be helpful.

Happy to discuss further by PM if you wish.

I have to step in to defend a fellow manager here. There has been precious little interest in volunteering to take up the reins of the managerial position in the past. if people think that they have a better crystal ball than lems then maybe they need to step up and take on the booking of the pitch rather than taking cheap shots from the sidelines. From personal experience, getting conscensus from you guys over the forum is nigh on impossible as most seem to visit the thread infrequently. At the end of the day it is just a kick around. If too many turn up then we play subs on a five a side. I don't see any big problem here.

I'm in for next Wednesday.
Fingers crossed we hit the 12+ commitments and book the 7-a-side pitch.
