Decent Ale

Harking back to the original posting - does anyone have any recommendations for decent 'carry out' ale.

I'm quite partial to a bottle of Wells' "Burnt Gold" which is basically a paler version of Bombadier. Luckily my local Costcutters and other grocers/ newsagents near me have a good selection.

Agree with the Badger's beers as above too!

Further Afield, one of my favourite pubs in London is the Royal Oak at Borough (Tabard Street) its a Harveys house - the only one in London. There you can find a very agreeable pint of Mild if the fancy takes you (as well as the rest of the Harvey's Range)

Bensonby, I thank you. My partner of 11 years is originally from just outside Lewes and everytime we go back there I yearn for a local in London that serves up some of their great Ales. She knew there was one in Central London but not where. My particular favourite is Christmas Ale but perhaps that's due to the Season and the ABV when I normally partake of it.

Although I note it's available all year round...

I agree with Besonby about The Royal Oak . Not only are beers great , good reasnobly priced food and great atmosphere. Only about 10 mins from London Bridge

Have to laugh at the transformation of the Royal Oak. About 20 years ago I stayed for the summer witha friend who lived on the estate next door and we used the Royal Oak regularly. It was a right den of theives where you buy anything you wanted at reasonable prices! Used to have lock ins to the early hours with pool and cards for high stakes. Went back there last year and couldn't beleive it. An even bigger change that that of the Dolphin.

I'm not a big fan of it.... its often quite badly kept too...
