Because the survey posted by the OP asked people if they would like the cinema in Sydenham or Forest Hill and this has not be posted on the SE23 forum.

A cinema in Sydenham would simply be fantasti!!
In a year this area has changed so much with the regeneration works. A cinema would simply be another great asset to the town and would be very popular: who wouldnt want to have a cinema 5 min walk from home?

Yes please!! This would be amazing. There is a real buzz locally at the moment and I think a cinema would really help build on that. The CP cinema campaigners would come too.

So what were the results of the survey? Is it worth opening a cinema in Sydenham?

I was in the new B&Q the previous weekend and chatting to one of the staff about the retail park development, whilst sorting some kitchen parts.

He mentioned that as far as he was aware, the next stage of the development to be built would include, besides a McDonalds and Nando's, a cinema.

Just a rumour for now, but he seemed fairly confident that it would take the majority of undeveloped land space still left, at the far end of the site. Anyone heard anything similar?

Have not heard anything but hope it doesn't spell the kiss of death - a cinema next to Nandos and McDonalds sounds like it is no going to be catering to the independent film market - which got me pretty interested . I would have zero interest in a cinema showing only the blockbusters I don't go to Beckenham to see.

I won't argue that - I genuinely don't know if more cinema leads to more cinema , in the way that more restaurants certainly lead to more restaurants . If it increases interest in film , and that in turn makes Sydenham a more fertile place for an independent cinema then good for everyone - let's see.
If we must have have a Kevin Costner reference though let's have Open Range or even Dances with Wolves (!)

I'm for both. Would be great to have an alternative to Beckenham to take the kids to. But also would like a small indie as this could become a new social gathering place especially if it has a cafe with good coffee and eats combined with a good little film bookshop.
