Not at all. Sydenham used to be a Kentish hamlet and is now a London suburb. Not unique, there are lots of them. Kirkdale is a shopping centre (although admittedly that is an ambiguous term) in Sydenham.

I don't think I'm breaking any secrets by saying Steve also hates the misuse of "village" for a part of Sydenham that has never, ever been a village.

Other matters have been discussed on this Forum with great fervour on which Steve has strong views, expressed in private but probably widely known. I have nonetheless refrained from dragging his name into them, so for once, no link to what I'm referring to
