I'm also a BBC (british born chinese) woman. I lived in Tower Hamlets for 12 years and received the odd bit of verbal (the usual ) a couple of times from groups of ignorant kids - usually it'll be some kid in a group who's trying to impress his /her friends and show them how hard/daring he/she is. So far, in Sydders, I've not experienced any racism. But I agree with Yellow Peril on this, and think that you should just ignore these individuals. They aim such comments at you to get a reaction from you. As soon as they get a reaction from you, they will keep on testing you.
If you don't react, then they will eventually get bored and find someone/something else to poke fun at.
I hope that it doesn't get any worse this week, what with it being half-term and kids not having anywhere to hang out.

@Ulyses - thats at least 3 of us but apology accepted - I am also an avid reader of The Sun. I know its trash but it's an easy read ;D (I get my main helping of proper news online). I have 2 degrees from 2 of the Top 10 unis and I am an IT professional
