I read an interesting article on this topic somewhere, I'll have to find it.
The basic premise was that with the increasing prevalence of GPS and 'chipping' of cars that a sort of modified cruise-control would be placed in all modern-cars.
Basically if you are driving in a built-up area on a 30mph road then your car would be limited to the maximum speed of that particular road.
It's a imprecise science and there are of course times when for short bursts you might wish to exceed the stipulated maximum speed as to avoid a collision but I was nodding my head...
My real bug bear is actually over cautious/slow drivers. Those who do 50 on the motorway or who pootle along in the middle-lane at 60. I think they are just as dangerous if not more so.
But much like bensonby I cannot drive either so WTF do I know?

If we assume Victorians - Lambchops here included - are just ordinary, normal human beings, then the evidence, whatever suppositions Dickp might make about driver behaviour, is that concealed speed cameras save lives.
I'd like here to say that I have a clean driving licence, but I did once have three points on it, for going something like 35 mph in a 30 mph area. Yes, I was annoyed, but my reaction has been to be more careful. How normal is that?
