It looks like Sydenham's skies will be significantly busier with the announcement today of Heathrow's third runway: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7829676.stm
Of particular note may be the ending of the the Cranford agreement which limits planes taking off to the east of the airport, would end, which he said would benefit Windsor and other towns to the west of the airport. Will that send even more our way?
It would seem a victory for BA & BAA and a loss for most of us east of London who want less noise, more convenient and cheaper flights rather than Johnny Foreigner's pollution. But then I'm not supposed to express an opinion

Increased aircraft noise
a simple problem lies in the absurdity of prices not reflecting environmental impact in the slightest.... I'd love to use the eurostar when I go to paris - however, the airfare is always significantly cheaper. Indeed, once (to my shame) I flew to Manchester.....this was because the price offered took the biscuit (especially as they wouldn't give me a seat!)
Why not tax aviation fuel and use the proceeds to subsidise other, better,m forms of transport?
