There are loads of them in Crystal Palace Park and they really do make a racket.
They first appeared in southern England in 1997, apparently. I saw one in '97 as I was on assignment photographing a book on Warlingham Park Hospital as it prepared for closure. I was exploring the extensive grounds and woods there when one swished past close by leaving a bright green trail in my peripheral vision. I was unsure as to what I'd experienced until one nearly crashed into me as I climbed up a slope for a high viewpoint for a picture. I couldn't believe my eyes.
Now they're all over the place.
I love crows. They're such impressive flyers. I could watch them for hours. In fact I'm planning to make a film of crows in flight.
I saw an amazing scrap just the other day as crows and seagulls went at each other over The Peak. People on the street were oblivious. I was awestruck. Seagulls are superb flyers too but the crows had the edge. The crows appeared to be showing off. A clear indication, to me at least, of their intelligence. Their arrogance.
Sydenham can be an exciting place.

They were in Beckenham Place Park in the 1970/80's
If you want to see lots of them go to Sydenham Hill Woods (Coxs Walk) along side the Golf Course
