Middle Class Pubs

Hey- nowt wrong with middle class pubs
I like the Dartmouth Arms- any pub that sells Leffe and kronenburg Blanc on tap are middle class.
Q Bar is a nice one too, EDT is cool, The rest are just full of single old blokes supping on a speed of 1.3487 pints an hour

I did a bit of a 'crawl' through East Dulwich a couple of weeks back, with a couple of mates. We started off at the EDT, then worked our way up Lordship Lane, and ended up in The Magdala.

The pubs became less and less inviting as we worked our way along (in Franklins, they just ignored us, so we walked out). The Magdala, despite looking half decent from the outside, was actually a bit of a dump when we got inside there. The crowd who had extolled its virtues a couple of years ago, when it was first renovated, had moved on to the next 'place to be seen'.

Maybe, God forbid, they are heading this way.

I guess we'll find out for certain or not when the doors of The Dolphin open tomorrow? I noticed as I walked past earlier this evening they were convening around the bar tasting the ales...I assumed this meant they were toasting a job well done (it does look rather fine) and that tomorrow was the big day.

Fishcox does make a very good point in that this thread has been viewed and debated to death. I got to thinking on Saturday as I was buying some supplies form the organic shop that if this groundswell (and it's an ever growing band for sure) of needing things a little bit more 'middle'class' doesn't result in a resounding success long-term for T.D. then we deserve our Greyhounds and our Talmas...

There is room for both styles of pubs.

Like thereis room for a kebab shop in the high street, a traditional chippie, a local cafe, a pizza express, a decent bistro, an indian and a greasy spoon.

That's the charm of Sydenham...community and hopefully in the future, a CHOICE.
