I have just had an expeience that I'd like to share with you all. Half an hour ago I found myself at the back of an extremely long queue at the cab office at the train station.
After what seemed an age, the controller anounced 'Champion Crescent.' I was just thinking, 'Oh, what a shame, that's just around the corner from me,' when a kindly voice offered to share her cab with me, because she'd heard that I was going her way.
Heidi, of Champion Crescent, thank you so much. You have restored my faith in humankind and I solemnly swear not to be so cynical and bitter about life. I hope one day soon to be able to buy you a big fat drink as a small token of my thanks. You really made my weekend!
I forgot to say, not only did Heidi offer to share her cab, she also refused any payment despite being the first to be dropped off.
What a diamond bird!
I truly wish you all the love and luck in the world.

Doesn't it just warm the cockles of your heart.
In a similar vein - a friend of mine was at London Bridge the other night and found herself at the back of a giant queue for the taxis. She'd possibly had one too many shandies so she decided to announce (loudly) her destination (forest hill) in the hope of gathering some cab-sharers going to a smiliar destination. In the end she had enough people for a full cab and the person at the front of the queue was so impressed he let them take the next cab that turned up.
Aaahhh. Happy Christmas everyone.

No matter...
I had a similar incident recently when I was chatting to some guy on the train and missed my stop (St Mary Cray) and got off at Swanley. I never had enough money for a cab, so I shared with somebody else (he was a decent human being too). Nevertheless, I would have walked home through the fields cause I know all the secret footpaths and it's good exercise, but the trouble is: there's no light. Sydenham doesn't have this problem; it's well lit everywhere to see your way home, plus you won't find any green footpaths highlighted on an ordnance survey map because it's too built up (to cut a long story short).

Yeah, the media would have you believe there's a 50/50 chance of being murdered. Indeed, there is a lot of sick people in this world, but it's not as bad as the media would have us believe. I still think it's safer in the dark and worse in the daylight...Wasn't you ever told not to get in cars with strangers!
