when your sofa becomes trade waste

Post by andrewv »

You are downsizing and hire a man and van to do your small move to/from Sydenham. At the end of the move you ask your man if he can take your old sofa/bed/wardrobe to the tip."Sorry, your sofa is classed as trade waste,we can't take it".It's true,Lewisham council along with most others class your sofa as trade waste if a man and van helps you dispose of it.If you hire and drive a van yourself then it's no longer trade waste and you can get rid of it at landmann way(for now).
Here's my question,if there are no council sites take trade waste in Lewisham then where can they take it?
my interest is,i am a man and van and get asked all the time.

They're very nice there. I should pay £3 to dump waste as I'm not in their borough but they usually look at my 1 item and wave me through. I even took a small bag of rubble there and expected it to be weighed and charged for the weight but again I was waved on.
It would cost me more than £3 in petrol to dive to Lewisham's dump and back so I'm happy to pay it if they ever ask for it.

Bensonby!!! I'm shocked!

When I lived in Sydenham I spent my time walking streets near where I lived photographing and reporting such items to Love Lewisham, don't tell me it was all your!

I jest, of course, it does seem like an attractive option for some sections of he community though when it is so expensive to dispose of items and the Love Lewisham process is so efficient.
