Excellent cafe with excellent service and a good range of snacks and light meals. Tried the coffee, sandwiches, baked potatoes and cakes - very good. Soup being served on the neigbouring table also looked tasty.
As you'll see from the photographs, Sugahill is a lots sleeker in its new reincarnation. There still isn't a huge amount of extra space but the new decor looks stylish and new tables and chairs are comfortable.
Great addition to Sydenham. Congratulations to the owners.
Now for the key question! The price of a cup of tea is 0.95p which should keep even the crockles happy. But probably not.
However, I did see someone in there reading a book. When oh when will these pretentious bastards leave the simple people of Sydenham alone?Believe me this is the thin end of a very big wedge. Within two to three years the high street will be full of babies in three-wheeler buggies reading Tatler and swapping stories of their recent holidays on snail farms in Umbria.

Narasoc. It doesn't look like they have any comfy seating like Zucker. That's what I really liked about the place. It was very relaxed. And please don't start slagging off young mums with buggies. If you were stuck at home all day with crying babies and demanding toddlers you would appreciate having somewhere to go to meet other adults to keep your sanity. Or just to be out of the house. And what is wrong with reading a book. If you are on your own in a coffee shop it's nice to have a paper or a book to read. That does seem like quite an over the top reaction....

Coffee houses .. Books? .. Books?
Sydenhamites will by using three syllabled words next and purchasing copies of the Guardian.
Anymore of this 'gentrification' malarki and I might have to go and live in Catford.

I posted this in another thread but it should really be here:
I went to Sugarhill today and had a hot chocolate and a panini.
Very nice too, good quality, well cooked, good value, it looks nice from the outside and its a nice place to be inside. The owner was there who has made a good job of it (a lot of his own hard works seems to have gone into the interior).
The owners wife is from Turkey and personally I'd love some more variety to what you can get there, like sweet Turkish apple tea or Turkish coffee, or proper mint tea with fresh mint instead of a bag. This would make it truly different from other places you can go to. If you go in there I hope people talk to the owners, then they can make their own mind up for what customers want perhaps they might have tasting session if they want to add different things to the menu.
I wish the owners well, I will definitely be back. Thanks.

I popped into Sugarhill on Saturday for a panini and cappuccino. The panini was good and the coffee a little below par (but then I'm a coffee geek and quite particular). It would be nice to see a few more homemade cakes and sweets - I've had a craving for lemon drizzle cakes lately and no-one locally seems to do them.
The new decor is very modern & sleek and the service very warm and welcoming. I think they're making a good start. I also think that over the next few weeks/months they could stand to differentiate their menu a bit from similar types of cafes - maybe start looking at making their own Sugarhill smoothies instead of selling prepacked ones, or offering fresh juice combos. This would also put them in slightly different territory to BMC, which offers a few juices but very much as a supplement to the overall BMC menu/deli.
Overall a good new addition to Sydenham, though. It's great to have to have two new cafes nearby.
