Albion Millennium Green, Saturday 12th April

Post by Tim Lund »

Lots of good things are happening on the Albion Millennium Green - the former tennis club site at the end of Albion Villas Road, off Sydenham Park Road. As our secretary just emailed
We have had a series of very useful workdays on the Green this month clearing brambles and planting bluebells. Further activities are planned and we are hoping that a Sydenham Arts Festival event is to be confirmed for the summer. Two local schools will be holding their own educational and leisure events in the coming weeks and months.
Volunteer work days will be held every second Saturday in the month from 10.30am ending with the November session.
While local authority and other grants enable us to pay for larger projects, we have little money to pay for basic expenditure including our annual insurance. Membership subscriptions enable us to function in between grants!
Yes - this is part of our fund raising (I'm the Treasurer) and it would be great to have more members from this Forum and the local community in general.

As to what we're doing in the immediate future
next workday will take place on Saturday 12th April from 10.30.
Depending on how many of us take part, we will be working on these parts of the Green:
1: 'Primrose bank' on the railway side of the Labyrinth -
: removing remaining bramble roots.
: tools needed - garden forks, secateurs
2: Silver birch copse -
: continue removing the small ash and any sycamore tree seedlings
3: Plum and damson area -
: digging out most of the Hemlock plants;
: clearing around the bases of the fruit trees to leave a circle of bare soil tools needed - garden forks, small spades, secateurs
4: Bound gravel path -
: clear the grass to expose original surface;
: tools needed – spades; to be used flat, to slice under the grass, taking as little of the gravel surface as possible
5: Railway path -
: check the new hedging;
: remove some of the new Chestnut tree seedlings
6: Labyrinth -
: repair the stone outline as necessary
7: Native species plants to put in –
: Mullein, Teasel, Cow Parsley, Figwort

Hope to see you there,

Welcome back Tim. Has been very boring without you, no one has mentioned housing at all.

I'm no expert in hangovers, but it would need to be pretty bad for there not to be time to come and help us. Might even do you good, so hoping to see you tomorrow afternoon :)

Bump.

With possibility of meeting *two* STF posters there for the first time. I will be armed with pruners, trowel, fork and membership leaflets with standing order mandate forms :)
