Re: Public consultation event on the design of the new "LIterary piazza" to be built at Home Park, outside Sydenham Community Library.
Aiming to make the park safer and more welcoming as well as provide outside space for library and community activities, this fantastic development has now been given the go ahead. This is, I have no doubt, one of the most exciting new projects in the gradually transforming Sydenham but we do need to hear everybody's views and priorities - please attend the consultations and have your say!
Forthcoming meeting:
Come and meet the landscape architect, Gill Wynne-Williams of WWA Associates. View the draft plans, leave your comments and suggestions. 12 -5 pm Saturday 15th March at Sydeham Community Library, 210 Sydenham Road, London SE26 5SE.
Not free on Saturday the 15th?
There will be a further consultation vent at Bellingham Assembly, 27th March, 7 - 9pm, at Watergate School, Lushington Road, Belllingham, London SE6 3WG

Re: Newsflash: Our Community Literary Piazza!
Just a reminder that this is tomorrow.
Re: Newsflash: Our Community Literary Piazza!
Oh no, I missed it! (long story, friends staying, roof leaking, walls mouldy and builders everywhere - or so it seemed)
How did it go Lee: are we having a gorgeous area to sit and ... contemplate?

Re: Newsflash: Our Community Literary Piazza!
(Off topic - I have mould and damp for the first time ever in 15 years in this house. My builder says he's seen so many cases of it in the last few weeks, all on walls facing in exactly the same direction, to the degree. The prevailing wind and rain has just saturated the bricks to the point where they can hold no more.)
Re: Newsflash: Our Community Literary Piazza!
Hi Maria,
the designs are good and simple and solve various problems like tree routes. The budget for delivery is tiny, so we shouldn't expect too many bells and whistles, but the good thing about the scheme is that it allows for bells and whistles to be added later.
I hope the plans go ahead unchanged.
The park has already improved by the removal of the awful link fencing. One thing that would make a big difference, which I hope the council listen to but this isn't part of the current plans (although we discussed this today), is to remove the whole of the brick wall in front of Home Park and make it parking bays, this will help the library, shops opposite and the nursery (who currently park on the pavement) and make the pedestrian walkway the currently unloved and redundant route through the from to the park with lighting, which would make the area feel more loved and makes use of current infrastructure. I've spoken to some of the shops opposite and they like the idea.
This could happen with the extended street improvements to Lower Sydenham and (in my opinion at least) would make the are feel far nicer and functional than just more repaving.

Good and simple... sounds good to me. And allowing for further improvements in future - sounds perfect, thank you Lee. I wonder when they will actually start the work? Now we are so close I'm very impatient - I want to sit there in the spring....
(Off topic, Rachael: Sorry to hear you and so many other people had the same problem; over and above the huge expense it is a most unsettling thought/sight: all that water seeping into the entire place's walls, ceilings, and floorings. We had to wait for ages for the builders as they could only do the roof work after AND BEFORE a few dry days, so we have just stood here looking at the slowly expanding black mould and peeling wall paper
