I can list many reasons why Sydenham Smiles and as a start I thought I would share a letter in the Times published on the 4 February:
Despite the wettest January in a century, this reader reports a surprising amount of solar electricity generated
Sir, A surprising anomaly in the weather last month was that despite being the wettest January in nearly a century, my solar panels, installed in July 2010, show that January 2014 produced considerably more kWh of electricity than any of the previous three Januarys, at least here in SE26 which is not generally recognised as a suntrap. The figures were: 2011 - 50.2, 2012 - 66.2, 2013 - 43.3 and this year 79.5. I am glad to report that the first two days of February are showing the same trend.
