Don't think we have ever spoke before.........
I am very interested as I used to have a weekly slot on Bromley Hospital Radio before the site was turned into flats, so got some experience in that field. I was also on the board for the station and held the monthly meetings.
Let me know how I can help and what I would need to do.

It started life in around 1998 as FLR (First Love Radio) and was based in Lewisham at that time; since then, it's gone through various incarnations and has relocated to Abbey Wood (still broadcasting to it's original TSA though) and was, until recently, known as Time FM.
Now relaunched (again!) as South London Radio, it has in fact proved to be very unpopular with the locals and has lurched from one crisis to the next, and it's widely thought in the industry that there's a good chance the current owners will throw in the towel soon and hand the licence back to OFCOM.

Thanks for the info regarding the station in Lewisham, wow I never knew thay had this in operation.
When I worked at Bromley Radio is great sucess was due to the well managed operation of the station and the need to get the whole of Bromley involed. Alomst every shop and company in Bromley was involed which helped with finance, and the station recieved many awards for it's air space.
It's a shame to hear that South London Radio is proving very unpopular, however I do believe that if you have right team to manage the station and understand the needs of what you are trying to achieve than any project can be turned around.
I think that Lewisham does need someting new and different in which everybody young and old can get involed in.

Bromley ran a very successful community project which campaigned for many years to get a full time station, I believe veteran broadcaster Dave Cash was involved at one point.
If I remember rightly, they applied for a full time licence when they were advertised for South London/Kent and lost out first to RTM (Thamesmead) and then FLR.
There is a gap for a community station in the Sydenham area, but it would have be very low power and extremely locally focussed; it's unlikely that a community project would be allowed to officially encompass Lewisham as that area is already served by a full time station and the transmitter power required would be too high.
I could see a station broadcasting to Crystal Palace/Sydenham and Forest Hill, but further than that I would think you might just be allowed to get into Dulwich or Catford.
The problem with Lewisham is that it's audience demographic is quite diverse, so profit making commercial stations struggle there with a workable programming solution; what it needed was something like Choice FM, what it got was more Radio 2.
As I understand it, properly licenced community set-ups have to be non profit making, so that opens the door for specialised programming because you haven't got the normal concerns of a commercial station ie, you don't have to worry about people switching off because you aren't totally money motivated.

So many people left the station to go onto better things in Radio which I think was great and allowed young people to gain confidence in speaking, presenting, and to learn the tec aspects of how radio works.
Well...you never know one day we may hear the views of good old SE26 transmitted over the airwaves, and if not well..at least we tried.

Time for me to bump this back up, as the first public meeting was held today.
A good turn out and everyone seemed to have a genuine interest in making this project work, which is important because, if this is to get off the ground, it will need a lot of local support.
I think this could become a very important part of the local community and I would urge everyone to get their weight behind it; I know from personal experience how much hard work is involved in making radio stations happen, usually by people who offer their time and effort for little or no financial reward, and it can be especially difficult in London, where any opportunities for establishing a new station are hotly fought contests.
Radio is a unique medium, insofar as not only does it provide entertainment and companionship, but it also has the ability to instantly react to situations, something that TV and newspapers rarely have the opportunity to do.
