Hi everyone, I'm working with Forest Hill School to find a suitable partner to help build a Young Citizen's Initiative. Have a read and contact Sasha if you're interested:

Forest Hill School - Specialist School in Performing Arts

Young Citizen's Initiative

Partners Wanted

Forest Hill School (FHS) is a boy's secondary comprehensive (with a
mixed 6th Form) in Lewisham, with specialist status in the performing
arts.

Since 2008 the school has been running the Youth & Philanthropy
Initiative (YPI), a programme that engages young people in social
change and empowers them to participate in the growth and development
of their communities. Through the YPI, students are provided with
hands-on, reality-based experiences which gives them the skills to
assess the needs of their community and make grants to community
charities meeting those needs. The programme engages students as
dedicated problem solvers and volunteers, and promotes a sense of
responsibility, respect and a commitment to growing compassionate
communities.

FHS is now launching a new initiative called the Young Citizens
Programme (working title). The Young Citizens Programme (YCP) will
build on the model, best practice and success of the YPI, to deliver a
programme that actively engages the school's students in the planning
and delivery of activities, events and projects that seek to address
the priorities, issues and needs identified within the school's local
community (i.e. Perry Vale, Sydenham, Forest Hill wards/ south and
west Lewisham).

The YCP will aim to:

* Enhance students/young people's learning through engagement in
hands-on experiences within real world contexts;

* Develop students/young people's life, employment and entrepreneurial skills;

* Engage students/young people as active citizens, increasing their
sense of responsibility and citizenship, and enhancing their cultural
and social knowledge and understanding;

* Nurture the talent and potential of students/young people:

* Provide, where appropriate, formal accreditation for personal and
skills development/training undertaken.

The YCP will seek to develop students/young peoples:

* team work and ability to collaborate and develop positive relationships;

* communication and presentation skills (inc. public speaking);

* research and analytical skills;

* critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills;

* entrepreneurial skills/ability;

* planning and project management skills;

* mentoring and coaching skills;

* self-management and initiative

FHS are now looking for partners to help develop, deliver, resource
and/or offer in-kind support for the Young Citizens Programme.

Delivery partners MUST have a successful track record of developing,
delivering, monitoring and evaluating programmes that support the
education, development and training of children and young people,
within school and non-school contexts. Organisations with expertise in
running enterprise projects, accredited award programmes for young
people (e.g. Arts Award, Duke of Edinburgh, ASDAN etc.), and/or
combining use of arts methodologies/innovative approaches to deliver
community, social action, education or personal development
projects/programmes, are particularly welcome.

Please send any expressions of interest by Tuesday 25th February. A
stakeholder meeting will take place on Tuesday, 4th March 2014 at
Forest Hill School. For more information, contact Sasha Leacock,
