It was still there as of this morning, boarded up and looking rather tatty. I've no idea when it is due to be demolished, in fact according to the Lewisham Council website no planning decision has yet been made on it, although this should have been done by now. If you want to check progress yourself later, the application reference number is DC/07/64838/X

Just discovered that (finally) the Council has made a decision - permission was granted, subject to various conditions - see link:

There is a "for sale" sign above the Duke. The agents details are in this link:

Not sure what this means in terms of when the building work will ever begin.

At risk of going off topic, but I notice that another rather tatty pub nearby - the Fox & Hounds on Kirkdale - has closed for refurbishment. I don't know how big a refurb this means, but will it be going all gastro-pubby?

There have been rumours of a gastropub coming to the at Fox and Hounds for sometime - however these have not been substantiated. It is long overdue for refurbishment and, if the Dolphin and the Dartmouth Arms can succeed in the world of the gastropub, I think there would be space for one more in between.

I think they must be referring to the new plans for the Duke, which involves knocking down the building abnd building a new 4 storey one?

If that's true about the Fox n Hounds that'd be amazing. It would provide some much needed competition for the Woodhouse for us lot in Upper Syd.

I walked past the Duke this morning and found that there is wooden boarding around the site. This might suggest that the bulldozers are coming - but who knows? But if anyone is interested in seeing one of the very few 19th century buildings left on Wells Park Road I would suggest they take a look now before its too late.

Very sad - I remember going there for a good few of their Karaoke nights - on a Friday night - All went down hill with the change of landlord/lady - Lovely lady but when Paula took over the people crossed the road to the Talma in droves.

Cant say I think much to the building they are putting on the site. Why cant we have exciting conversion of existing buildings then enhance street rather than yet another odd shaped box punctuated with windows and strange coloured render?
