I'm currently working on changing a web site I did for the Bromley Allotment and Leisure Gardens Federation, and one part of my thinking is to avoid using Google, in particular Google Maps, since they claim intellectual property ownership of everything loaded up to them. It's also an interesting challenge to get to grips with the alternative, Open Street Map. Here are links to the current site, and here the developing new site, which doesn't have much of the content transferred yet, but I've got a fair idea of how it's going to work, using Wordpress and various cool plug-ins I've come across.
Anyway, one part of de-googling will be to get some alternatives to the Google icons, such as this
which will be Google intellectual property as well, I assume. It would also be cooler to have icons which related to allotments, so a representation of a vegetable, or a tool. The images are transparent, 1.13cm x 1.13cm.
This is not something I have the skills for. If anyone who does wanted to give it a go, I'd be delighted to include an acknowledgement and website link in the footer to the main page.

Hi Tim. I'd certainly be able to help with your map icons. I'll send some ideas over to you shortly.
