Silverdale top end water leak - road dug up

Post by mosy »

Currently (4.25pm Friday) allowing one lane of traffic through but no lights or clear indication (that I can see) which direction if either has priority.

Quick update: Status as before, water running from two places so from both sides of the road (9.30pm Fri 10th) with one side still dug up, so only one lane for both traffic directions which should be OK for the lesser amount of weekend traffic.

I'll report further all being well in case any change over the weekend. If not, I'd strongly suggest avoiding during rush hour on Monday morning, usually approx 7.15-7.45am then 8.15-9.00ish am, both of which require patience at the best of times.

Thanks for the info mosy! I suspected they'd have to start digging! Hopefully people will take care if they have to use the junction while it's being fixed!

If it's not fixed by Monday, I hope they're co-ordinating with the council to have the top end parking spaces suspended. Much tooting of horns methinks with nowhere for queueing traffic to back up. We'll see. It's a long time until Monday morning...

Update:

1. The road will be dug up "for a few days".

2. Traffic is now one way only, allowing it in from Sydenham Road, so traffic wanting to leave Silverdale will have to find another route.

Work was continuing yesterday and today (Sun). The workmen said (c.4pm) today that they'd got down to and found the leak and hoped to fix it today but it would take time to put it all back together including re-tarmac-ing, hence few days. They reckon the leak on the other side of the road is just a run out from the main leak, so won't need any separate action.

we went out on Saturday morning, and the police were at the junction stopping people from driving south from Silverdale onto the main road (because people were obviously ignoring the 'road closed' signs)

The same thing this morning, lots of 'road closed ahead' signs, and at least one 'road closed' sign, but still I saw at least half a dozen cars drive south down Silverdale, and not turn round, and ignore the road closed sign, and drive out onto the main road.

the ignorance, or "it doesn't apply to me" attitude of some people beggars belief!

I trust the Police prosecuted all offenders.

Dunno Eagle as "moving traffic violations" are decriminalised in Lewisham aren't they, they are in other London boroughs, so it'd be up to the council who'd issue fines rather than for the police to issue points on licence. Not sure how the police became involved and monitoring unless there was a near miss maybe, as monitoring is hardly the best use of their time.

- Water is no longer running.
- The road is semi-filled in, i.e. sub-earth levelled ready for surface finishing I reckon.
- Road still closed.

The closure is being ignored but in fairness it tends to be busy only during morning, noon and evening rush hours so there shouldn't be an incident in quiet times if drivers are sensible.

(Edited after going out around 3pm today, Mon.)
