Rare footbridge across the Pool River?

Post by Falkor »

I think this is somewhere near Southend Lane or Kangley Bridge or Datchet Road? The building the background is meant to be "Beckenham Orchard Place", which I've not found any reference to yet.

That is a fascinating picture. Despite what the caption says, I'm pretty sure it is Orchard Cottages, at the bottom of Castlands Road:

There is still a bridge over the river at that point, and another over the railway line. John Coulter's Sydenham and Forest Hill Past has a photograph of Orchard Cottages on page 16 and they look very similar to those in your photograph.

Well done Steve; you have indeed nailed it down nicely!!! I often cross the new footbridge when walking to Bellingham station and ponder over that big empty green where the cottages used to stand.
