I need confirmation that I have identified all demolished Perry Hill buildings in their correct location, plus help with unreferenced buildings and questions about known ones. I would be grateful for any assistance!
1843
A) Possibly White House Farm
How could this building have been White House Farm considering there was another White House Farm so closeby on Bromley Road? Could it be any of the buildings listed below?
Unlocated Buildings Around Perry Hill
-Genand Crofte and Costumes Farm (built before 1627)
-Nutgrove Hall (built before 1627)
-Tile Kiln (mentioned in a 1621 list as forming part of Sydenham Manor)
-Unknown Cottage (built c1724 by Richard Buxton on wasteground fringing the road)
B) Orchard Place / Orchard Cottages
1863
1) Unreferenced
Is this the surviving building in Catford Hill at the junction with Exbury Road?
2) Perry House
Not referenced in Sydenham and Forest Hill Past, but some information provided by Steve Grindlay.
3) Place House
4) The Elms
5) Unreferenced
What were these 3 buildings? One of them also appears on the earlier 1843 Tithe map.
6) Unreferenced
What was this narrow building?
7) Unreferenced
This group is also shown on the earlier 1843 Tithe map when only 2 buildings of Group ( 8 ) had been built. Group (7) buildings are of a smaller size, so were they something else other than Verey's Cottages?
8 ) Verey's Cottages
9) Unreferenced
A building that looks like some kind of barn; was it part of The Two Brewers next door?
10) The Two Brewers
11) Large un-named house opposite Castlands Road, childhood home of Walter W. Skeat
12) Brongers Farm (later White Cottage)
13) Ivy Wall
Which one is Ivy Wall? What is the other building?
14) White Hart (later Radcliffe)
15) Walmer House
16) Laurel Brook
Were both buildings in the group part of Laurel Brook? If not then which one is Laurel Brook and what is the other building?
17) Orchard House
18 ) Perry Hill House
19) Unreference
Part of Perry Hill House School?
20) Unreference
Part of Perry Hill House School or something else?
21) Manor House
22) Perry Hill Farm
Which is the surviving farm building(s): 143, 145 or both?
Is Swanley an AKA for 143 or 145?
Was "Albert Cottage" (source: 1862 Stanford map) part of the farm?
23) Clare Lodge
24) Unreferenced
Could these be outbuildings of Perry Hill Farm or Clare Lodge?
25) Unreferenced
Was this another outbuilding associated with Meadowcroft?
26) 226 Perry Hill / Meadowcroft outbuilding (still standing!)
27) Claremont
Were all 3 buildings in the group part of Claremont?
Was Claremont enlarged or rebuilt between 1875 and 1894 considering it appears larger on the 1894 map?
28 ) Meadowcroft
Location of demolished buildings in Perry Hill
I asked the guy in the library regarding the above and come up with some corrections:
1) Mostly a pond, but also some outbuildings associated with Place House.
5) Most likely connected with The Elms, which was a farm.
9) Stables for Two Brewers
12) Orchard Cottage (Brongers was apparently a medieval house demolished years before this map was published).
13) Ivy wall is closest to the road with a yard behind it.
19) Carter's Nursery
24) Outbuildings of Clare Lodge
27) All 3 part of group, including outbuildings.
