I am a bit confused ( nothing new there!)
We now have the new street lights in our road, the old ones have been removed,
We have new ones all down one side, and only one at each end of the road where other roads run on the opposite side, I am sure this has made the road a lot darker, so what was the point?

New street lights
Re: New street lights
You can have a couple of mine if you like, Annie. I have three outside my bedroom window! Three!! I''m dreading Skanska finally switching them on.

Re: New street lights
Really ? I can't understand the system, I used to have one of the old ones outside my window, which I was used to, now I have no lights on my side of the street at all except one each end of the road, its much darker here now,the lights also are shielded a bit by trees.

Re: New street lights
There have been lengthy discussions on SE23.com about the new lights as they were done there first. Lots of people have problems with poor placement of lights, black spots, lights covered by tree canopies. Have a look at this thread here: http://www.se23.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=8485. It's the most recent one, but contains links to older threads with contact email addresses for Skanska and Lewisham. Skanska do reply to emails eventually, but you have to chase them.
Re: New street lights
It's an unneessary waste of tax payers' money. And Skanska!?! When I heard Skanska had this huge contract my heart sank. We hear scandal after scandal about Skanska. From dodgy accountancy, to bribery, to the blacklisting of workers who raise health and safety issues.
I wonder how much all this is costing? It seems a crazy waste of money when services are being cut.
Be grateful Annie that you don't have these new lights flooding your bedroom. Blue light suppresses melatonin production up to 30 times the rate of the yellow sulphur type lights we're used to. Melatonin is needed to prevent cancer. Studies are on going to look at the long term impact on health. I fear that in 20 years time compensation claims will be made. But it won't be Skanska that pays them.

Re: New street lights
I have always had "blackout" curtains attached to my normal curtains Mary, but now it is so dark you can't see anyone walking by,recently there were a group of youths gathering and I couldn't see what they were up to,this is unusual in my road.
