Just heard on the radio about some particularly nasty hornets "gathering to cross the channel". Not as amusing as it sounds. Not only do they kill honey bees, but they also have very nasty stings. Unlike honey bees, they can sting multiple times. It's a double worry for me, because we have honey bees in a roof space and I have a medical condition that would make one of these stings very dangerous for me.
Defra is asking that people report any sightings, if possible getting a specimen or taking a photo, but not putting yourself at risk or disturbing a nest.
