Asian hornets

Post by marymck »

Just heard on the radio about some particularly nasty hornets "gathering to cross the channel". Not as amusing as it sounds. Not only do they kill honey bees, but they also have very nasty stings. Unlike honey bees, they can sting multiple times. It's a double worry for me, because we have honey bees in a roof space and I have a medical condition that would make one of these stings very dangerous for me.

Defra is asking that people report any sightings, if possible getting a specimen or taking a photo, but not putting yourself at risk or disturbing a nest.

Here is a link for further info.

Although I think the only non seasidey one is the pretty and innocent looking water primrose.

Thanks for the warning. A shame they couldn't have provided a more useful illustration: I'm not planning on getting that up-close-and-personal with them, but an overall view would have been helpful.
