I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but I'm sure ADMIN will move to the appropriate area, if necessary.
This is a glowing testamonial for Sydenham DIY at Cobbs Corner
I had some carpet and underlay fitted yesterday in my flat. All was well and good until i tried to shut the front door.
In Sowf Lundun speak "It weren't 'avin' it"
The carpet was now too high and was rubbing on the bottom of the door so much, that it was nigh impossible to move.
I tried to raise the front door on it's hinges, but..."It still weren't 'avin' it"
I'm no expert with a saw, so i took the door to Sydenham DIY.(there is now a convenient parking pay opposite, in the form of the entrance to the Greyhound)
They have a wide range of professional cutting gear in their back room. They managed to take 4mm off the base of the door in around 5 seconds. AND in a perfectly straight line. Total cost was £4.
Brilliant service and really friendly guys.
( and yes, the door fits an absolute treat)

Hi George,
(I hope you're managing to restrict your nocturnal visits to public open spaces)
The carpet fitters weren't to blame. The carpet was higher than before because a good quality underlay was fitted (which previously wasn't there) and it was a deeper pile carpet than the original. As running a lawnmower over the carpet wasn't practical, adjusting the door was the most realistic solution.
Anyway, job's a good 'un, thanks to Sydenham DIY
I would urge people to recommend(sp.) their local shops and services when they have a positive experience.

Hello - There's a thread in the "Town Hall" on this website, see "DIY Shop" here: http://sydenham.org.uk/forum/viewtopic. ... 3ecc11547d
Perhaps you could add a comment there also?
I agree about carpet fitters, that they know that doors might well "catch". Some just take doors off and leave them off. To be fair, a carpet fitter isn't a carpenter (unless a carpenter is included in the deal). As you say, there's a skill in taking 4mm from a door. Well done Sydenham DIY
