Venner Square Food market
Venner Square Food market
I thought it was there the last Sunday of every month? Which was today?
Re: Venner Square Food market
Hello. They were taking a break in August so the next is last Sunday in September

Re: Venner Square Food market
That's a shame. I was looking forward to celebrating the end of a week of dreaded night shifts with a slice of lemon almond cake.
Is there a place online, in this forum or elsewhere, where we can go to for updates on when the market will be there and what is going to be there? (june, lovely gnocci, July, none..... July, market there.....August....not!)

Re: Venner Square Food market
Yes, here on this Town Hall section of this forum, Chris Best posted that the market would not be held in August and would return in September.

Re: Venner Square Food market
Only spotted it a month or two ago when I was hurrying for a train, so glad to know it's a regular event. Thanks.
Re: Venner Square Food market
Thanks marymck, I will look out for it next month, just in case events cause it to be cancelled again. Perhaps Admin will consider stickying it for a few days in the run-up to the next one, if there is any break from the norm?marymck wrote:Yes, here on this Town Hall section of this forum, Chris Best posted that the market would not be held in August and would return in September.
Re: Venner Square Food market
Good idea checkmate. While he's on the case, I think the diary section is quite hard to find, especially when using a mobile. Please Admin could we have a link to the diary from the mobile board index page?
In the meantime, Checkmate, I'm pretty sure the Forest Hill food fair is happening next weekend. However, I can find nothing on either the See3 or Forest Hill soc websites to confirm this. Perhaps Michael could put on a post to confirm?

Re: Venner Square Food market
Alas, marymck, I will be working 0800-2000 next weekend, and, 0800-2000 when the next market is on opposite the front door!
Re: Venner Square Food market
I can confirm the FH Soc Food Fair will be back next Sunday, 1st September from 11am-3pm (I'll get the flyers up on the website this evening).marymck wrote:In the meantime, Checkmate, I'm pretty sure the Forest Hill food fair is happening next weekend. Sydenham Market will be running on 29th September.
And there's likely to be another market starting in the local area in September.
As they say in the Guardian - "If you want to regenerate a town centre, set up a local market"

Re: Venner Square Food market
Not wanting to do down the efforts of the Portas Team / Lewisham Council, I can't help thinking that being offered a "monthly" market is a bit rubbish, given the clear demand and specialist facilities now becoming available.
But here's the thing:
City and Country Farmers' Market (http://weareccfm.com/OurFarmersMarkets.html) organises a weekly market in Herne Hill.
London Farmers' Market (http://www.lfm.org.uk/markets-home/ ) organises a weekly market in Balham, Brixton and Blackheath.
The Urban Farmers' Market (http://www.urbanfarmersmarket.co.uk/) organises weekly markets in Peckham and Camberwell.
And Brockley Market (http://www.brockleymarket.com/) has a weekly event in, obviously, Brockley.
Which begs the question? Why can't any (or several) of these market organisers be granted a concession to operate a market - perhaps on a rotation basis?
Has anyone investigated this? Before I "go rouge" - and contact these organises myself? It might make sense to invite all of these organisers to the September event, and allow them to evaluate the viability of running / expanding on what is already being offered.
Thoughts / comments / abuse?

Re: Venner Square Food market
Not having seen the market I imagined it was mainly farm produce , fruit and veg , from Kent
I was told today it was very expensive cakes etc , someone quoted Mayfair prices??
If true rather sad.

Re: Venner Square Food market
It's great that SEE3 starts the ball rolling but if we think that something is better I'm sure see3 will support it.
Go rouge Dickr, go rouge…(I have no idea what that means, but I like how it sounds).
