Sydenham Station Pedestrian Crossing

Post by mosy »

I gather from Riney that a crossing from Sydenham Station Approach to Lloyds Bank can be expected around mid-May. Good ho. Apparently a light-operated one. So, about a month to go yet.

Good news.
I have to admit that the pelican crossing on the other side of the bridge is quick to respond
and has made crossing the road easier if you are heading that way. There, I said it.
Some cars do not stop, but those drivers did not stop at the zebra in the first place.

Oh dear. Back to normal.
The timings on both crossing lights are now so set in favour of traffic they are actually less safe than the old zebra, as pedestrians just assume they are broken, and make their own way across.
What a waste of money.

Now you mention it, when I tried to cross there this afternoon I ended up crossing when the northbound traffic was stationary and there was a break in the southbound. I realise it can't be expected to respond instantly for every person wanting to cross the road, but surely a happy medium is achievable?

The amount of crossings does seem rather daft. It does restrict traffic flow. It doesn't seem to be popular with pedestrians either.

For what it's worth, without my having raised the matter, or ever having discussed it, my wife remarked to me yesterday how much better the new arrangement was. In this we speak as pedestrians.
