Surely the best route is for LBL to threaten to blacken the name of Purelake to all our councils .

Last time I saw Mr D he was not impressive. Asked a very long and boring question to The PM which he had difficulty reading.

Is he backed by Unite??

I believe Jim Dowd is Gerry (Jerry?) Dowd's brother. So maybe he has some influence.

Having just seen Jim Dowd's blog I wonder what he actually does aside from opening charity shops, saying he supports a cause (and gets his picture taken) and saying well done to people that have actually done stuff.

What have been his successes. He is out local MP but I really haven't a clue about anything he has achieved or done, especially for Sydenham. I don't remember him being involved in any campaigns to save the library, Sydenham Pools, the Portas Pilot, Sydenham Arts Festival etc. He hasn't come up with any early day motions, has sponsored two and supported (added his name to) a few more. http://www.parliament.uk/business/publi ... mber=3017

Can anyone shine any light on what the Rt Hon Mr Dowd has done for us locally? I remember my dealings with another MP in Lewisham for Brockley (I forget her name) who was pretty useless (as was mayor Bullock) although Darren Johnson and another Green Cllr were both brilliant (he even wrote to me after the issue was dealt with to apologies that it couldn't be resolved while I was living there, I got no response from Bullock, which I found ignorant.

If Mr Dowd isn't doing anything for us, isn't it time we voted for an effective candidate irrespective of the colour of their rosette? I really don't give a flying fig for any party to be honest, aside from Blairs first term, I can't remember any government that I thought was doing a good job.

Am I mistaken?

Only time I saw the good Mr D was an the Catford Beer Festival about 8 years ago.

He seemed to like his ale which is a plus factor.

Heaven forbid we got a lager lout.

I think he is probably now too old. Not sure if he has said he will or will not stand again. Hopefully not.
No doubt we will get a party worker who has never had a proper job , or even a member of Unite.

It does seem to that the developer has made sure it got its profit and then is ignoring its obligations to the local community

On its website Purelake seem whiter than white - we of course have a very different experiance and even taking them to court has made no difference.

Presumbly the Greyhound was part of their planning application

Don't take this personally Lee, but I'll reserve my judgment on this. As I just wrote

I know you feel frustrated by politicians, but I really don't think that as people they are on balance worse than the rest of us; I'll spare you various links, but I'm sure we'd find that when tired old political classes have been swept aside and replaced by pure new faces, something happens to make the new faces seem much like the old before too long. It's the story of Animal Farm, if you like.

Michael, cheques in the post (but I have no interest in being a politician!).

It may well be that Mr Dowd is a brilliant local MP, but I know of no reason why. When I lived in Devon my local MP was Nick Harvey who was very good, engaged, had good ideas and seemed to actually get stuff done. Perhaps it's just that Mr Dowd is a poor communicator, or that the local Labour party isn't getting his message out. I know Labour has the most disciples around these parts, surely they can jump to his defence?

We should question our local representatives and no just vote for a colour. Parties are made up of people. We need more Mo Mowlams. I'd have voted for her whatever the colour of her rosette.

Ah Rod, you bring back memories of the only time an MP ever rang my doorbell. And yes, it was he. campaigning for some election or other and I questioned him on that very issue. He was livid and after a stand up row, stormed off. Hotly followed by a red faced go-fer.

On another tack, my husband and I once nearly bought a house from Purelake. They had put the windows in upside down, and when we started pointing out a lot of other issues, the sales lady said the people buying the neighbouring property had had a 28 page snagging list. She seemed to think this quite the norm. Exit stage left, pausing only to demand return of deposit.

I was in Herne Hill yesterday and went to the Half Moon. A great example of a pub that has been completely turned around by new management. I would love it if we got a similar owner at the Greyhound.

Is there any news on work starting again? It's beginning to bore me.
