Parrot

Post by Shaq »

Hello! The wife and I have just seen what appears to be a red-winged parrot in Mayow Park. It was in a tree with a wooden box on it, next to the path, on the left hand side, if you were walking towards the bowling club house(?) and away from parkside penthouses. I couldn't tell you what branch, but it seemed quite settled in (cup of tea, etc).

If anyone has lost it or if you are just interested in the diversity of sydenham wildlife there it is.

Sorry about the size of the link below; but it looked very much like this one:

Oh yes we all know him, in fact he is a parakeet, name of Dave. Lives there with his lovely wife Maureen and two chicks. Works up in the City.

:-)

If you go to Dulwich and Sydenham Hill Golf Club or Sydenham Hill Woods (Coxs Walk) you will see absolutely hundreds of these parakeets. On the golf course you will also see woodpeckers, kestrels and the odd sparrow hawk and heron.

I saw a pair of green parrots over in Clapham the other day, looking perfectly happy- I always wonder if they can be warm enough.

If you like animals/wine/ song then do come along to the World Animal Day Charity Concert on 4th OCtober, please! It's for Naturewatch foundation and for the Goodliffe Hall regeneration project. http://www.alexandracarter.com for more details and to buy a ticket.

I used to live in Hither Green and in Mountsfield Park there are LOADS of parrots. I used to see them fly into my garden every day last Summer.
