Blind Lane (now Vancouver Road) is shown on the Tithe and early Ordnance Survey maps as a trackway, from the junction of Perry Hill and Catford Hill, leading to nowhere! 8) However, on early maps there clearly was a building here...
1745 - no road
1786 - no road
1815 - no road
1816 - road and building
1820 - road and building
1829 - road and building

1843 - road only
1862 - road only
1863 - road only
1875 - road only

The 1829 map appears to be extremely accurate--albeit at a poor scale--for two reasons: firstly, it shows the correct route of the Croydon Canal through the Honor Oak woods; secondly, it shows Rockhills at the fringe of Sydenham Common and other buildings that had developed on it since the enclosure. There is no mistake that a building once stood at the end of Blind Lane/Vancouver Road, which might have even been especially laid down as the carriageway. The building must have lasted for approximately 25 years; I wonder what it was?
