Westwood Hill Road Work 3rd June

Post by Hammaren »

Suddenly there is some major road works going on at Westwood Hill, the stretch between the Cathedral and the roundabout..

Does anyone know what will happen there?

Welcome to the forum, Hammaren.

They are resurfacing the road as part of the high street improvements. More at http://www.lewisham.gov.uk/inmyarea/reg ... treet.aspx

It's not a complete surprise - there have been signs giving advance notice of the works for a couple of weeks.

Thanks biscuitman1978, did not know about the resurfacing of the road, but as long as part of improvements that's good.

The Cathedral ?????? Has the parish church of St Barts been given promotion ??

Bishop of Sydenham has a ring to it.

Woolwich House is in Lawrie Park Gardens within the Parish of St Barts. The ancestral seat of the Bishop of Woolwich. Now converted to flats.

The current bishop's house is in Forest Hill. I hadn't realised that bishops were quite so upwardly socially mobile.

I believe Woolwich is not a proper bishop. He's only an assistant bishop ("Bishop suffragan") under the bishop of Southwark

according to the progress report

"The first stage of carriageway resurfacing will begin on Monday 3 June, on the stretches between St Bartholomew’s Church, Westwood Hill and the Cobbs Corner roundabout and between 238 Kirkdale and the Cobbs Corner roundabout. This stage should be completed on Tuesday 11 June. No works will be undertaken during the weekend of 8-9 June.

hope that gives you some respite...
