Home Park Community consultation on the Adamsrill Decant Proposal - Meeting to be held on Friday 31st May at Sydenham Community Library

Image

Lewisham Council have arranged a consultation meeting on the Adamsrill Primary School decant proposal. The meeting will be held at Sydenham Community Library on Friday 31st May 2013 from 2pm - 5pm at the following address: 210 Sydenham Road Sydenham London SE26 5SE

The meeting is to discuss London Borough of Lewisham's proposal for a temporary relocation of part of Adamsrill Primary school into Home Park.

Adamsrill Primary school is located in the Forest Hill & Sydenham Primary Place Planning Locality. There has been pressure on school places in the area since 2009 and this is forecast to continue / increase throughout this decade. The Mayor agreed in July 2012 that Adamsrill should be expanded permanently to 3 forms of entry.

In order to support the expansion, it will be necessary to demolish an old single storey extension and replace it with a two storey building linked to the original Edwardian school. The current extension buildings are shabby and need considerable maintenance. As the buildings are used by Key Stage 1, these children will need alternative accommodation during the building works for the 2013/14 academic year.

A number of alternative locations for the decant site have been investigated which include, Perryrise, Livesey Memorial Hall, Mornington Centre and Brent Knoll however all have proved to be non viable options.

Therefore Lewisham Council officers want to hear the views of local people on a proposal to use Home Park as a decant site for Adamsrill Primary School.

Lewisham Council look forward to your attendance.

Kind Regards,

I'm surprised no-one has commented on this. So I'm bumping it. It will have a significant impact on the park.

Thanks for posting this Lee. Work permitting I'll try to get there, but it's very frustrating the meeting is during working hours. I think it would be a disaster if the park were built on.

I agree with Mary, but maybe the reason for not so many people commenting was that you've not spelled out what being a decant site means. Is there an undertaking to restore the park to how it was? How long will it be used for this?

They are temporary buildings, it's just while the school is being built, but how it will look and how big an area it will cover is unknown.

I'm not against it, it will bring people, money and development into the park in the long run. It just depends on the details. I'm all for the development plans for Crystal Place Park and the housing there and parks have long had building in them. It just depends on what they bring to the area. If it's for 6 months and the park ends up with new play facilities etc because of it, then I think it's a good thing.

I share the frustrations about it being during the day though.

Bump!

Also to say it's unlikely that I can get there this afternoon, but as someone who spent much of my education in "temporary" school buildings, these things tend to take years and years. We're not exactly talking about Portakabins, these buildings will probably have to be pretty substantial and will need mains services.

Surely there are better alternatives?

Is there no space at Kelvin Grove? Even a couple of classrooms could help and they just took over the whole of the adult education centre to allow for future expansion. Problems with transportation could be solved by a school bus to and from the Adamsrill.

Kelvin Grove has already expanded into the new building, having become a 3-form entry in recent years. So I doubt that would be workable.

I imagine the Adamsrill building schedule would be pretty swift due to the disruption of having a satellite site.

I just popped into the meeting and took these photos of the hand outs. The bottom line, I guess, is the undertaking is to use less than a tenth of the area, and be out of Home Park by Dec 2014. While I was there various points were being made as to what alternatives there might have been, and whether officers had consulted properly, not least with Members, who appeared to have been as much in the dark as the rest of us.

Thanks for posting that Tim.

Hopefully clearer plans will be available later. They have only just started the surveys so expect a little wait for any concrete (or rather temporary support) plans to emerge. I met the architects in Home Park that were doing it only a week or so ago.

This doesn't seem an unreasonable idea. I'd probably be in favour.

Pity they're not going to knock down that eyesore of a toilet block at the same time as putting the school in there.

Aren't the high street development suppose to running down all the way to Bell Green now? I'm sure I've read this somewhere although it was little vague with the details. Hopefully this will do away with the toilet block. Is it even still still in use?
