House help?

Post by Maria »

What with hay fever, a kitchen in the process of being destroyed before re-constructing, and asthma.... I'm having a hellish time with all this dust and pollen everywhere.

I know adverts for cleaners have been banned due to misuse/abuse of threads, but if anybody knows someone who could come and help me for a few hours in a major spring clean around here I wld be grateful if you could PM me?

Many thanks

May seem obvious but why not put your question to Job Center. There are probably hundreds of unemployed who would welcome the chance to work.

You know it makes sense.

I hesitate to add this since it's not what you asked, but if the air is full of renovation dust, can either wait for it to settle then mop up with a damp mop or cloth rather than vacuum, or if still airborne, lay your upright vacuum on it's side, switch it on with doors and windows closed and leave the room for a while. (It does work.)

Have you considered an air purifier? I have an ionic Oreck one which works very well in closed rooms ("can breath again"), so you could have one in the bedroom as a "clean room" (and move it around as necessary). Have to clean the filter & electromagnetic(?) collector grid regularly (a pain) and consumables can be expensive over time and, of course other brands are available so I don't know how the Oreck stacks up against competition in actual usage. None of them are cheap to begin with so it'd be up to you. It's counter-intuitive to keep windows closed on sunny days, but can try to keep it out and then pretty much eliminate that which has managed get into the air.
